Make room for joy

Make room for joy

Do you know how much of our time is wasted on making assumptions and holding on to grudges? I don’t know, but I think the answer is a lot! The word grudges sounds like a horror film; featuring a hideous monster who is bloated with resentment. And there are days when I am “super-sized” with resentment. Oh, yes. Then I would walk past a mirror and shriek “holy, moly, who is that?!”

Our mind can really only focus on one thing at a time. Double tasking means we are doing two things not very well. When our mind is focusing on the hate there is no room for the love. In the middle of finding clarity and balance, assumptions somehow still find ways to sneak into our thoughts. When our mind is loaded with assumptions and grudges – the mental trash – there is no room for fresh, beautiful, wonderful joy.

There are 3 strategies that can help you to make room for joy.

  1. Ground your feet
  • breathe in deeply into our feet
  • rock our body
  • find your center
  1. Download your mental trash
  • recall 3 major events that left you feeling inadequate
  • make a basket and dump the trash with BIG sound
  • think of 3 people that cause you to doubt your self-worth
  • make a basket and dump the trash with BIG sound
  • now picture the delete button in your mind and hit delete
  1. Grow your Joy
  • BIG audible exhalation
  • stretch your body in this new open space
  • look back on 3 major events that made you feel special
  • place your hands on your head, stretch your pecs and inhale and exhale
  • see the face of 3 people who fills your heart with love
  • place your hands on your heart, inhale and exhale

We fill our mind and our heart with joy, because we have a choice.

Take the wise words from Maya Angelou, “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them."
